The kora is traditionally played by oral historians known as Griots, often called Jalis. Gaskell was so inspired by the music that he traveled to West Africa and studied with Moriba Kuyateh. His performance will feature traditional songs that are the heart and soul of the kora’s musical repertoire. On Thursday, May 11, Sean Gaskell will give a performance and an educational demonstration on the West African Kora, an ancient 21-stringed harp, at 7:30 p.m. ![]()
